A Year of Creativity at Moulton Library

It’s been an inspiring year of creativity at Moulton Library, with a wide variety of workshops to spark imagination and learn new skills. In September, we were delighted to welcome textile tutor Rebecca, who has been running a fantastic programme of textile-based workshops, including:

Community Remembrance Tablecloth

We came together in a truly special way to create a unique Remembrance Tablecloth for the annual Remembrance Lunch at the Moulton Community Centre. This collaborative textile piece reflects contributions from across the generations — from the youngest two year old who proudly drew a poppy, to the oldest members of our community who cut, stitched or wrote messages in memory of loved ones.
Every mark, drawing, and stitch represents a personal story, a moment of reflection, and a shared act of remembrance. The finished tablecloth stands as a meaningful symbol of community spirit, creativity, and collective honouring of those who served.

Displayed during the Remembrance Lunch, it offered a heartfelt reminder that remembrance is something we carry together — across ages, families, and generations.

Kids’ Beginner Sewing Class

Our young makers had a fantastic time in our beginner sewing session, learning how to create their very own tote bags from start to finish! From carefully cutting out their fabric pieces to decorating their designs and assembling the final bag, the young people explored new skills with guidance and encouragement.
There were lots of proud faces as they showed off their finished totes — each one individual and made with real care. A brilliant introduction to sewing.

Throughout the year, we’ve also enjoyed working with a range of talented tutors, offering sessions in watercolour, macramé, polymer clay, batik, quilting, Christmas wreaths, mandala art, and more. Our popular monthly craft group, Made by Me, continues to be a highlight, with participants learning a new skill at every session.

Keep an eye out for upcoming workshops at Moulton Library, details are available on our social media channels and through TicketSource, our online booking system. Whether you’re a seasoned crafter or just starting out, there’s something for everyone to enjoy!

Moulton Library: A Hub of Health, Wellbeing, and Community

With the arrival of spring, now is an ideal moment to look back on the many successes of Moulton Library Health & Wellbeing Hub over the last six months. During this time, the library has truly come alive, delivering a wide range of events, activities, and vital support that have benefited people across our community.

The festive season saw the library buzzing with activity, from creative workshops to social events and wellbeing initiatives that lifted spirits during the darker months. Children enjoyed hands-on craft sessions, while adults took part in wellbeing activities designed to reduce isolation and support mental health. In addition, care packages and festive hampers were shared with those who needed extra support, helping to spread warmth and kindness at Christmas.

As winter continued, the library remained a welcoming and inclusive space through the Welcoming Space initiative. Extended opening hours allowed residents to enjoy a safe, warm environment complete with free Wi-Fi, books, puzzles, and engaging activities. Complimentary hot drinks and snacks in the evenings added to the sense of comfort, making the library a valued refuge throughout the colder weeks.

As we move forward, we’re excited about what lies ahead. A full programme of new events and opportunities is planned for the coming year, and we look forward to continuing our work as a centre for connection, learning, and wellbeing. Watch this space, there’s plenty more to come at Moulton Library.

Something for Everyone at Moulton Library

Moulton Library is thriving with activity, offering over 50 different groups, activities, and drop-ins, with up to 150 sessions being delivered each month, not including our creative workshops! With such a wide variety on offer, there’s truly something for everyone, and we’re always exploring new ideas to keep our programme fresh and engaging.

You can find our full timetable on our social media channels, website, or by visiting the library in person. If there’s an activity or group you’d like to see added, we’d love to hear your ideas!

Don’t forget to keep an eye out for our exciting events throughout all the school holidays. With a wide range of activities, many at low cost or even free, there’s always something fun and engaging for everyone to enjoy.

Highlights of 2025

Christmas at Moulton Library

The festive season at Moulton Library began on a magical note with the return of the Laugh Out Loud Theatre Company, whose delightful performance of The Snow Queen set the tone for Christmas week. Our much-loved Christmas Cracker welcomed more than 40 stallholders offering everything from handcrafted jewellery and wooden decorations to baked treats and unique gifts.

Festive cheer filled the library throughout the day thanks to performances by the Moulton Church Choir and Musical Memories, who treated visitors to a wonderful programme of seasonal songs and carols. We also hosted a special evening to celebrate and thank our volunteers for their dedication and support throughout 2025. Live music and a delicious buffet, prepared by the team at EAT Café, made it a memorable occasion.

Christmas celebrations continued beyond the library walls, with festive story times at Squire’s Mews Care Home and Overstone House, bringing together residents and visitors through shared stories and songs. Our Christmas Family Disco was another highlight, packed with music, fun, and games for children and adults alike. We look forward to welcoming everyone back next year to enjoy these much-loved traditions once again.

Spreading Christmas Cheer: Festive Hampers Across the Community

Thanks to two successful grant applications, the Library and Health & Wellbeing Hub were able to extend additional support across the community during December. A total of 250 Christmas hampers were distributed throughout Moulton Village and the surrounding community, made possible through funding from the West Northamptonshire Council Household Support Fund. We are extremely grateful for their generosity.

Our thanks also go to Moulton Parish Councillors, Jon & Co Estate Agents, and local PCSO Kev, who kindly helped deliver the hampers to residents. The response was incredibly positive, with many recipients sharing how much the gesture meant to them. Beyond providing essential items, the hampers added an extra touch of joy and reassurance at a special time of year.

Being able to support our community in this way is something we are immensely proud of, and we remain committed to continuing this important work.

Cuppa Connections at Chappell House

The popular Cuppa and Cake sessions at Chappell House have continued to thrive over the past year. These friendly gatherings offer residents the chance to chat, socialise, and enjoy plenty of tea and cake in good company. In December, the festive season was marked with a special visit from the Moulton Library Health & Wellbeing Hub team, alongside a delicious Christmas buffet prepared by the team at EAT Café, bringing warmth and seasonal cheer to everyone involved.

Community Lunch Club

Our Community Lunch Club continues to grow in popularity and has become a much-loved part of the weekly calendar. Every Friday, friends and neighbours gather to enjoy a freshly prepared, home-style meal alongside warm conversation. For just £6, attendees can discover a new dish each week, making every lunch a treat to look forward to.

A highlight of the year was our Christmas Lunch Special, where 200 festive meals were served thanks to the incredible efforts of the Eat Café team, supported by students from Moulton Secondary School, the Moulton Leisure Centre team, our local PCSO, and the wonderful staff from Family Hub Northants. This heartwarming event was made possible through funding from West Northamptonshire Council’s Household Support Fund and perfectly captured the spirit of generosity and togetherness.

We look forward to welcoming even more people to our lunch tables in the months ahead—there’s always room for one more!

Community Transport Scheme: Helping People Stay Connected

Since our launch in September 2024, the Community Transport Scheme has quickly become an essential service for residents of Moulton and patients of Moulton Surgery. The scheme provides a dependable and low-cost transport option for those attending medical, health, and wellbeing appointments, helping people maintain their independence and access vital services.

Since its introduction, the scheme has delivered more than 1,200 journeys, highlighting just how important it has become to our community. Members benefit from a reduced fare for single or return trips, ensuring the service remains affordable and inclusive for those who rely on it.

For further information about the Community Transport Scheme or to check your eligibility for membership, please contact Moulton Library on 01604 642202.

Breakfast Clubs

We’re proud of our thriving Breakfast Clubs, which bring people together for food, conversation, and friendship. The Men’s Breakfast Club meets every first and third Monday of the month, with an average of 23 attendees each session. Meanwhile, the Women’s Breakfast Club, held on the first Tuesday of each month, continues to grow steadily as more people join.

Both groups have gone from strength to strength, providing a welcoming space for connection, support, and a sense of community. Whether you’re looking to meet new people or simply enjoy a hearty breakfast, these clubs are a fantastic way to start the day.

Meet@EAT – Happy Café (Action for Happiness)

Looking for a welcoming place to relax, chat, and enjoy a cuppa? Meet@EAT Happy Café, run in partnership with the Action for Happiness initiative, offers a friendly, relaxed space to unwind and connect with others. Whether you’re after uplifting conversation, a quiet moment, or just a change of scenery, you’re warmly invited to join us.

There’s no pressure, just a comforting environment where everyone is welcome. The group meets on the last Thursday of each month from 2pm to 3.30pm. Tea and coffee are free, and for only £2, you can treat yourself to a freshly baked scone with cream and jam. Drop in as you are, we’d love to see you!

Kids in the Kitchen – Family Cookery Classes

We’ve been thrilled to offer our free Kids in the Kitchen family cookery classes, helping parents and children learn valuable skills to prepare healthy, delicious meals together. By the end of 2025, 72 participants had enjoyed hands-on lessons, thanks to generous support from the Northants Community Foundation and the Lesley Church Fund.

From November 2025 to March 2026, we’ve delivered an additional 120 spaces, made possible through a successful grant from West Northamptonshire Council’s Household Support Fund. The classes have been met with fantastic feedback, with families embracing new cooking skills at home and children discovering foods they might never have tried before.

These sessions aren’t just about cooking, they’re about creating memories, encouraging healthy eating, and inspiring confidence in the kitchen for all ages.

A Growing Partnership with Moulton Secondary School

This year has seen our relationship with Moulton Secondary School go from strength to strength, with pupils giving their time, energy and enthusiasm to support a range of community activities and making a real difference along the way.

One of the most memorable moments was a visit to Ashurst Mews by the cast of the school’s hugely successful High School Musical production. The residents and staff were treated to a lively and uplifting performance, bringing smiles, music and a wonderful sense of connection between generations. It was a joy to see how much the visit was enjoyed by everyone involved.

We were also incredibly grateful for the support of sixth form students, who kindly helped serve Remembrance lunches and Christmas dinners. Their willingness to step in, help and engage so positively with the community was greatly appreciated and demonstrated a real spirit of kindness and responsibility. Our community had nothing but praise for the students.

Looking ahead, the sixth form students are also hosting a Lego Day at the library, welcoming Year 7 pupils alongside Year 6 children from Moulton Primary School. This fun, creative event will help build friendships, confidence and a sense of belonging as younger pupils prepare for the transition to secondary school.

We are proud to work alongside Moulton Secondary School and are excited that this partnership continues to grow. With lots in the pipeline for 2026, we look forward to many more opportunities to collaborate, inspire and strengthen our community together.

Moulton Library Children’s Literature Festival

A Festival Full of Stories, Smiles and Super Talent

October 2025 saw Moulton buzzing with imagination as our Children’s Literature Festival returned, and what a day it was! From the moment the first pencils were picked up, and the first stories were shared, it was clear this year’s festival was something special.

We were incredibly lucky to welcome two brilliant authors, Alice Harman and Alice Hemming, whose workshops were packed with creativity, and laughter. Young writers were encouraged to play with ideas, characters and words, impressing the authors with their imaginations!

A definite highlight for many was Gareth P. Jones, who absolutely thrilled his audiences. With his trademark energy and infectious love of mystery, Gareth had children on the edge of their seats, eagerly plotting twists, suspects and clever clues. His musical mixed up fairy tale was also a lot of fun!

Meanwhile, James Parsons once again worked his magic through his virtual drawing classes. As always, he was fantastic, guiding, encouraging and inspiring in equal measure. The sessions revealed just how many amazingly talented young artists there are in and around Moulton, and it was a joy to see creativity flowing so freely.

The festival was a wonderful celebration of books, ideas and young imaginations, and we are so proud of everyone who took part, from the authors and illustrators to the children, families and supporters who made the day such a success.

After such an amazing event, we’ll be taking a well-earned break, but we’re already looking forward to returning with fresh ideas and new stories in 2027. Until then, keep reading, keep drawing and keep imagining!

Available Monday to Saturday throughout the day, these easy-to-use machines let you quickly check your weight, height, Body Mass Index (BMI), and blood pressure in just a few minutes. Regular monitoring can play an important role in staying healthy, as changes in blood pressure can often be an early indicator of underlying health issues.
